Case Study: HISTORIC
LIMESTONE

FORT RILEY
KANSAS

The objectives of our study were to:
a) Perform an analytical study of stains found on Fort Riley historic limestone structures
b) Provide documentation of that analysis
c) Make recommendations for appropriate and cost-effective preservation and maintenance treatments, specifically cleaning, for the historic limestone material.

The architectural drawings to the right are documents of our forensic work to sample and identify the nature of the biological agents of limestone deterioration. On each copy of the rendering, test sites are indicated in handwriting to document location of samples taken for identification of biological materials growing on the exterior limestone.

On another wall of historic architecture at Fort Riley, Kansas we have applied the second test cleaning materials to two blocks of stained limestone.
