Kansas State Capital Building
Historic Structures

Overview

The construction of the 20-acre capital square began in 1866 in Topeka, Kansas. Its historical structures include the Capital Dome, State House, House of Representatives, Senate offices and library. It is a rich source of history, architecture and sculptural work.

Scope of Project

Jensen Conservation Services conducted a comprehensive condition assessment of sculpture and architectural metals, including an analysis of coffered ceilings, outdoor sculpture, railings, barriers and interior metalwork. The entire building was examined by a team of experts. Structure and function of all aspects of the State House were considered and findings were compiled into a Master Study. They made recommendations for sample preparations and further testing and provided solutions for conservation treatment and maintenance.
