structures comprise three historic districts listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.

Limestone
Scope of Project
Jensen Conservation Services was contacted to perform an analytical
study of the limestone stains that had taken over the vast majority
of the historical buildings at Fort Riley. Their job was to assess
the conditions of the structure surfaces and make recommendations
for appropriate and cost effective preservation and maintenance
treatments.
Once introduced to the layout of the historic districts the Jensen
team began with biological stain sampling and observation of the
limestone. The results were documented and photographed. Next, they
prepared cleaning sample areas to determine the effectiveness of
treatments. Through test cleaning procedures, they were able to
draw upon a number of conclusions and factors that were involved
in the limestone decay. Their study gave them the necessary information
for several recommendations on the maintenance of Fort Riley.
